Slim’s is a glamorous reimagining of the classic steakhouse by STARR Restaurants. Drawing from Hollywood’s golden age of cinema, Stephen Starr named the restaurant after Lauren Bacall’s nickname in the 1944 film To Have and Have Not—a reference that informed the branding’s flirty yet austere slanted “S.” The interiors, designed by Gachot Studios, echo that cinematic nostalgia through checkerboard Nero Marquina and Calacatta Viola marble flooring, coral pink hues, warm brass accents, and moody lighting, all of which informed the broader graphic language and identity system.

In To Have and Have Not, Lauren Bacall made her film debut as Marie “Slim” Browning, a sharp-witted and magnetic drifter who becomes romantically entangled with Humphrey Bogart’s cynical fishing boat captain in wartime Martinique. Bacall’s performance defined the film’s seductive tension and introduced the cool, effortless glamour that became both her signature and the guiding persona behind the Slim’s brand identity.
